Square Cash Is Extremely Easy to Use — Scary Easy

I just sent money to my mom this morning using Square Cash. It was so easy it was kind of scary. Google has offered a similar send money via email feature for a number of months.

That’s also quite simple to use. It’s difficult to say which one is easier, though I’d probably come down on the side of Square.

With Square Cash you send an email to the designated money recipient including an amount. You then get an email from Square asking for you to provide your debit card number (first instance only). If you want to send more than $250 you have to jump through a couple of additional hoops to verify your identity, which were pretty simple.

People will need to get over the initial hump of using these tools and figuring out how they work. Some people will also have security fears. Once those are overcome I predict these tools will become enormously popular — and not just for sending money between friends or family members.

They could quickly become a kind of back-door “mobile payments” tool. Square Cash and Google (when your bank account is tapped vs. a credit card) are free for both parties to use.

What do you think is the outlook for these send-money-by-email offerings?

Greg, I was sent $10 yesterday via square cash and it blew my mind how easy this was. So I sent money to other people. How can this be legal? It’s free which I understand is their game plan for acquiring users to compete with Paypal, but it’s so damn simple! Attaching a debit card to an email? This makes paypal a dinosaur. I agree that there will be many with security concerns – that will keep people away, but I would predict this will catch on like wildfire. It’s truly incredible.

Yep. Google has a similar email feature. Don’t think it’s going to kill PayPal however.
