Location analytics company Placed this morning announced Placed Affiliate. It offers a way for mobile developers and app publishers to generate additional revenue from users who opt-in to have their locations tracked.
Placed will pay developers for the users that opt-in to the system. Placed in turn gets paid by marketers (e.g., Wal-Mart, BestBuy) using the platform for research.
Developers integrate the Placed Affiliate SDK which captures and tracks mobile device information and location.
According to the company, “Placed Affiliate works seamlessly with current monetization channels to deliver incremental income, while also offering a revenue-generating option for developers that don’t use advertising.”
Placed is also mindful of privacy and requires explicit notifications and what amounts to a double-opt-in system:
