To Capture More Location Data, Placed Wants to Pay Developers

Placed logoLocation analytics company Placed this morning announced Placed Affiliate. It offers a way for mobile developers and app publishers to generate additional revenue from users who opt-in to have their locations tracked.

Placed will pay developers for the users that opt-in to the system. Placed in turn gets paid by marketers (e.g., Wal-Mart, BestBuy) using the platform for research.

Developers integrate the Placed Affiliate SDK which captures and tracks mobile device information and location.

According to the company, “Placed Affiliate works seamlessly with current monetization channels to deliver incremental income, while also offering a revenue-generating option for developers that don’t use advertising.”

Placed is also mindful of privacy and requires explicit notifications and what amounts to a double-opt-in system:

Placed continues its role as a leader in privacy by requiring participating apps to not only have location permissions enabled by the end user, but also requiring a secondary notification and opt-in for any data exchange, ensuring a privacy first user experience. Additionally Placed requires the app developer to make Placed’s terms of service and privacy policy readily available for review.
