David Mihm and his illustrious crew of local SEOs are out with Local Search Ranking Factors volume 5. For anyone involved in local search and especially those who are actively optimizing websites and local listings it’s a must read.
I got a sneak peak at this year’s findings when I participated in Local U Advanced, following SMX Advanced in Seattle last week. As I listened to presentation after presentation at the event it became crystal clear that there’s no way in heck that SMBs can do any of this stuff let alone do it well.
The survey identifies positive and negative variables and asks local SEOs to rank them. There were 90 positive factors and 18 negative variables that the local SEO survey respondents ranked and discussed.
While the work product is awe-inspiring and Mihm and crew are to be commended it all stands as a kind of metaphor for how impossible and overwhelming digital marketing is for SMBs.
Matt McGee unpacks the findings a bit more at Search Engine Land.
