WhitePages.com has upgraded its iOS apps for iPhone and iPad and made them more user friendly and comprehensive. The tag line now is “find everything nearby,” which means residences, people and local stores.
The new and improved app maintains existing features and adds a range of new capabilities. Among them you can now search for “nearby people” (who have public information on WhitePages). Users can also search for “nearby stores” and do reverse address lookups (figure out who lives there).
According to the company the reverse address capability was the “#1 request from our iPhone and iPad users to date.” In addition, app users can now share any address or location through Facebook, Twitter, email or SMS. The company says, “Choose your friends and post directly to their wall or tag them with a tweet, all without leaving the WhitePages app.”
WhitePages.com has a very utilitarian brand and it’s not as sexy as some of the overheated startups doing “people search” or lbs friend finders (e.g., Highlight). But it’s by far the most successful people search site online. I would bet most people don’t realize how much of their information is discoverable through WhitePages.com (it can be made private).
The WhitePages mobile app has been extremely successful since its launch in 2008. There are premium features that cost money and the app is also monetized with ads. Below is a video that reflects some of the capabilities of the new app.
