WiFi ad network JiWire just put out an infographic that showed, according to their data, where people who went to the Super Bowl came from and what devices they used to connect to the network. The top “traveled from” cities were Chicago, Boston and Detroit (NY was #8).
What’s more interesting is that among travelers connecting on a JiWire-supported WiFi network at home and then again in Indiana, the device breakdown was the following:
- Smartphones: 47%
- Laptops: 29%
- Tablets: 24%
While these numbers are not necessarily an absolute reflection of the devices these people carried or used they show that roughly 2.5X more people connected with smartphones and tablets than connected to the Internet on laptops.
This makes sense because tablets and smartphones are easier to manage and less bulky than laptops. However I find it an interesting, even striking, finding about the direction of the market.
