YPG Relaunches RF Deals Site, Adds Deals to Yellow Pages App

Yellow Media/YPG in Canada has revamped and relaunched its RedFlagDeals site and associated mobile app. It has also integrated deals into its flagship mobile YP site as well.

New features on the RedFlagDeals site include new navigation, a mapping capability and the addition of local deals to the national deals database.

For its YP app the company is aggregating deals from various sources and claims that it has the largest database of deals in Canada. I was unable to locate any deals in the app (perhaps because I’m looking from the US). However the press materials say that users will be able to find deals:

  • On a deals tab in business search results
  • Nearby deals will also be shown on a map

YPG is supporting the launch of deals on its mobile app with a TV campaign and a contest with $1,000 and $5,000 prizes.

Just checked from Canada, there are a couple deals, but they appear to be few and far between (I found none in Halifax, had to look at Toronto restaurants). Even then most of the deals were public anyway, e.g. $1 for a coffee at Tim Hortons.
RedFlagDeals.com redesign looks sharp, and according to Alexa.com they needed it, as despite fantastical growth in the deal segment, traffic looks pretty flat year over year. I can’t help but feel this is another desperate move from a company loosing market share even faster than RIM.
    RIP YPG.
