More on That Local Job at Facebook

I posted last week about the head of marketing for Local job at Facebook. I’ve since spoken to the key people at the company about the position. Facebook has very high expectations for the individual who’ll eventually take on the role.

Fundamentally Facebook wants someone who can “talk to engineers and not get laughed at.” There’s an engineering culture at Facebook but not quite as much has been true at Google (that’s changing now).

They want someone who is data oriented and ideally has direct marketing experience. But they also want someone who has larger savvy about SMBs, their challenges and their needs. A person whose background is primarily in sales would not be a good fit probably. And a “pure marketing” person is probably not the right fit either; there are a mix of skills required.

To some degree the person can shape the job, however. They want someone who can step in, formulate a strategy and lead a team from different groups within the company.

This is apparently VP-level role but the scope of the job is global. Facebook wants someone who is going to lead a global-local charge, not simply in North America and/or Europe.

It’s a huge opportunity, literally and figuratively. And unlike many companies, the person who steps into the job will have considerable resources at his/her disposal. In addition the Facebook brand and visibility should make life much easier in many respects.

This is one of the key opportunities in the local segment. You can click the job description above to apply for the position or you can contact me and I can forward your name along.

Note: I’m not benefiting in any way with this; I don’t receive any fees or other compensation. I’m just doing them a favor ’cause I’m a “nice guy.”
