Dex Delivers 2.0 Versions of Its Mobile Apps

DexOne has upgraded its iPhone, Android and RIM mobile client applications. It has also made some strong design choices that give the apps a bolder and more “branded” appearance than the company’s first mobile applications, which were somewhat more “generic.” I discuss the apps and their new features over at Internet2Go.

The new app offers local events, movies, gas prices and some other non-standard YP content. This was first done by AT&T Interactive in YPMobile when it integrated local events from Zvents. It was also recently done by Yellowbook in incorporating local product inventory, which Superpages has also done.

I’m fascinated by the ways in which the boundaries of directories are evolving and expanding to accommodate real world behavior (especially in mobile) but also to create more engagement and usage frequency for the publishers’ digital products. (Directory publisher content strategy is the subject of a panel I’ll be moderating at the upcoming IYP SearchMeet event in a couple of weeks in London.)
