SuperMedia and Dex to Share Distribution

SuperMedia and Dex One said they had “entered into a cross-distribution agreement that allows both companies’ advertisers to have their business profiles and other enhanced content appear on both and DexKnows.”

As I understand it this won’t include a reciprocal sales element. Each company will sell its own ads and this merely represents additional “free” distribution for both directories. DexOne advertisers won’t be covered under SuperMedia’s SuperGuaranee program.

I haven’t seen it in operation so I don’t know how these advertisers will be presented in each reciprocal context. I imagine it will be consistent with the existing presentation of ads on each site.

This is going on elsewhere in the YP industry but not perhaps as extensively as it should be. The notion of reciprocal distribution has been around since the earliest days of IYPs. Before the SBC-BellSouth acquisition of an industry wide discussion took place but never materialized around a broader IYP distribution network.

In the years since, third parties such as CityGrid have filled the vacuum that the absence of an IYP network.
